Greetin´s heathen´s

On a swedish forum I read that "americans are more into the sagas whereas scandinavians are more into the lore" (frased more or less this way). I heard that a long time ago and it made me think a lot- because ones perception of things may vary a lot due to what material one reads.
But then I got to re-reading a lot of sagas, been bedtime stories for a while now and actually the sagas, in my opinion, only broadens my scope on things.

Do you prefer one over the other (sagas vs. lore)?
What do you find the differences between them to be- on a more overall level?

Courage and strenght,
Andrea

AND what sagas are your favorites and what mythstories do you most often return to?

At the moment havamal is the pieces that I turn the most to. Half a year ago it was Voluspar. I frequently also turn to sigrdifamal (allthough I still cant remember how it´s spelled cool ). Sagas: I like, so far, Gunlød Ormstunge a lot and I am totally taken by the potencty of allmost every single sentence.

For me, Lore (form Early bronze , Viking and to recent time) and sagas are joined. The sagas is a part of Old Lore

However, I'm more interested in Old lore. The sagas is a way to learn and to find ways of Old Lore

I like the Völuspá and Skírnismál from Edda

The Saga of Egil Skallagrimson. For me Egil is a model wink (Viking, Poet, runecrafter, etc.)

I've not got far into the sagas yet myself... I am currently getting through Njal's saga and I was reading Egil's until I lost my copy. Shocked Once I am finished with these does anyone have any recomendations or advice on where to move onto next?

Well I hope you´ve read the mythology texst themselves because they are really, to me, the core.
Voluspa and Havamal... good old classics, it never hurts to learn them by heart Very Happy

Well i haven't done any saga reading for quite a while now Embarassed ! Someone in AL posted a link to the Northvegr site's lore resource page and i thought to myself i should work my way through the different texts and remind myself what's what (i forget who said what and where!) Anyway, i'm a fan of Havamal as well, and also of Sigdrifumal.

I do often wonder if there were quite different versions of things in different places and times. For example, the creation of humans story is different in the Eddas to the one told by Tacitus Confused

I was actually thinking that its because its from the 4.2 update, because I cant get the games to load normally. These are backups, and my wii is chipped. If this is the case, any ideas on how to fix it?

I was thinking about reformatting the wii, but I heard that will not downgrade the firmware. Is there any truth to that?
